Printer cartridges to cut emissions
12/02/2007 13:47
Printer supplies manufacturer Hewlett-Packard has revealed that it is to redesign the packaging for its printer cartridges in order to cut its emissions.
It claims that the move will see it cut greenhouse gas emissions by 37 million lbs, the equivalent to taking 3,600 cars off the road.
This is a huge step by Hewlett-Packard into the world of green business and sees it join fellow printer manufacturers Canon and Dell in trying to reduce the impact printing has on the environment.
The smaller, lighter printer cartridge products will all have a reduced carbon footprint, with the added benefit of shipping and transportation becoming increasingly environmentally-friendly.
Hewlett-Packard has said that this should cut 1.5 million miles from the total amount of transport between America and Canada in 2007.
In addition, resellers will also see benefits from the redesigned packaging, with more space available on store shelves to stock other products.
However, this latest announcement is not the first time Hewlett-Packard has made moves to cut the impact its printer cartridges have on the environment, with the total net weight of its products having been reduced by 80 per cent since 2001 and the capacity of its shipments quadrupling.
