Office furniture to power phones and laptops

Office furniture Office furniture could be the latest product to be merged with modern day technology after manufacturer Herman Miller announced plans to develop a desk that works as a charger.

The office furniture manufacturer is planning to merge the traditional desk with 21st century technology that uses magnetic fields to generate a charge for devices within its range.

Mobile phones, laptops, mp3 players and anything else that needs charging can be powered by simply placing it in contact with the magnetic field, leading Herman Miller to claim that this can save firms money as only the desk will need a power supply.

Herman Miller spokesman Mark Schurman added that the company is considering merging the technology with other office furniture in a bid to eliminate trailing leads from the workplace.

The office furniture manufacturer has been licensed to place the technology, known as eCoupled, into its products by Fulton Innovation.

Fulton Innovation has claimed that it wants to help create a truly wireless world, with eCoupled technology used to power a whole range of office equipment as well as products such as blenders and TVs in the home.

At Paperstone, we have a more modest collection of traditional office furniture.
