New printer ink standards to help consumers
24/01/2007 13:11
New standards for printer cartridges and other printer supplies will help consumers make informed choices, the UK's IT, telecoms and electronics trade association has claimed.
Intellect has welcomed the International Organisation for Standardisation's (ISO's) decision to publish standards that will force printer supply manufacturers to display each printer cartridge's yield in a consistent manner.
Under the ISO standards, manufacturers will also have to incorporate contact web addresses onto packaging and retailers will have to be trained in how to explain the importance of ink yield to consumers.
Steve Foster, head of Intellect's Printer Manufacturer Group, said: "Until now, printer manufacturers have used a variety of methodologies to measure cartridge yields.
"Page yield is one of a number of important factors to consider when selecting a printing system. These standards will help consumers have consistent and easy to understand cartridge yield information for the printers they are buying."
Mr Foster added that the new standards will offer significant benefits to manufacturers and customers alike and has pointed out that the UK printing industry has long been a "proponent of worldwide yield standards".
At Paperstone, we offer a wide range of printer supplies for the home and the office.
