30/08/2007 16:55
Office machines, including printers, copiers and multifunctional products (MFPs), saw increased sales in the first half of 2007, research suggests.
A study by analyst Gartner reveals that sales of these office machines rose by 5.8 per cent on the same period last year, Computer Weekly reports.
Shipments of this kind of office equipment in Europe, the Middle East and Africa totalled 23.4 million units between January and the end of June, the figures indicate.
Additionally, the analyst predicted that sales of printers, copiers and MFPs within that market could grow to nearly 54 million for the entire year, as the trend has already continued to grow since the second half of 2006.
Some 53 per cent of the market was made up of copiers and MFPs, the firm stated.
"Sales in this segment were primarily driven by serial inkjet MFP sales, which accounted for 41 per cent of the total print market," analyst Cecile Drew was quoted as saying.
Regarding the market for serial inkjet printers, HP remained on top, making up nearly half of the market share.
Other manufacturers of office machines which featured highly in the rankings were Canon, Epson, Lexmark and Brother.
HP recently announced that it planned to grow its business around printing services.
