Most advanced Wi-Fi network in Europe
23/04/2007 14:52
The famous square mile in London is now Europe's most advanced Wi-Fi network, offering 350,000 people wireless broadband access throughout the city.
Operated and built by wireless broadband provider The Cloud, the network will service residents and visitors to the capital with outdoor Wi-Fi connectivity.
Office staff in the capital will now be able to connect to the internet on the move more easily than ever before.
Mobile phone giant Nokia is also providing free online access for the first month for anyone looking to surf the net with a Wi-Fi enabled device.
Niall Murphy, co-founder and chief strategy officer of The Cloud, said: "Metro Wi-Fi networks are changing the face of towns and cities around the world for both public access and public sector applications.
"The City of London network is a global benchmark for cities and metro Wi-Fi, and an exciting addition to The Cloud's network across the UK and our other city networks in Europe.
"Working with Nokia demonstrates the value these kinds of networks deliver for exciting and useful 'internet everywhere' access on the move."
The development has been a year-long process and sees London become Europe's densest city-wide Wi-Fi network, with 127 nodes cleverly built into street signs and lampposts.
