Printer supplies firm Lexmark has revealed in its recent Productivity Trend Tracker there has been a consumer shift towards mobility.
The printer supplies outfit suggests that while the last 50 years were about "enabling connectivity and communication", the next five will be about "ensuring people can achieve these goals wherever they may be".
Its study demonstrated how European trends have shown a strong move towards wireless uptake and increased mobility in and out of the home.
Finding greater degrees of flexibility has been earmarked as the most important development of the future.
The printer supplies expert's research revealed that 90 per cent of people are hooked up to broadband and are now looking to achieve more through greater flexibility.
In the UK, 44 per cent of people said they already had a wireless network in place at home and 81 per cent of these are already experiencing productivity benefits.
A further 47 per cent of people who didn't have a wireless network said they planned to introduce one in their homes in the near future.
Lexmark, which has been offering printer supplies solutions since 1991, commissioned the survey to celebrate the launch of its inkjet single function printers and all-in-one wireless option printers.
