Inkjet cartridges going to waste, says Epson
15/06/2007 16:21
Printers that tell their users to throw away inkjet cartridges too early could be costing users up to 60 per cent of its content, printer supplies expert Epson has revealed.
Laboratory TUV Rheinland conducted the study to see how much ink remains in inkjet cartridges when printers inform users they need changing, Techworld reports.
The research showed that vast amounts of the ink from inkjet cartridges was going to waste, with photo printing providing an ink efficiency of 58 per cent and business document printing representing just 47 per cent efficiency.
Kodak has recently declared its intention to enter the printer supplies war, but its EasyShare model demonstrated an ink efficiency of just 40 per cent, compared to Epson and Hewlett-Packard (HP) machines, which showed an impressive 80 per cent efficiency.
Epson commissioned the study to measure the environmental impact of waste ink and its claims that printers with single colour tanks are more efficient was backed up by the fact multi-inkjet cartridge printers scored particularly bad results.
Japanese firm Epson has been delivering top-quality inkjet cartridges and other printer supplies for many years now and its history dates back to 1942, when Hisao Yamazaki founded Daiwa Kogyo.
