Printers and printer cartridges manufacturer HP has declared that it has been successful in its bid to acquire data centre automation software firm Opsware.
The offer made by the printer and printer cartridge provider is said to be worth a total of $14.25 (£7.13) per share, or alternatively, an enterprise value worth around $1.6 billion (£800 million).
Already a leading light in the printer world, HP has announced that the deal will enable it to increase the scale of business technology optimisation software portfolio, once finalised.
Commenting on the deal, Thomas Hogan, senior vice-president of software at HP, remarked: "The acquisition of Opsware is intended to enable HP software to help our customers resolve one of their critical pain points - controlling the increasing complexity and cost of managing the data centre."
The firm will be looking to strengthen its position as one of the world's leading printer and business solutions providers in light of the deal, while Opsware's shares rose by 35 per cent, following the announcement.
"We are about to see one of the biggest application and infrastructure build-outs in history. The addition of Opsware to the HP Software portfolio will make HP the obvious choice for powering the next generation of data centres to come," according to Opsware chief executive officer Ben Horowitz.
