24/01/2007 13:11
Office equipment manufacturer HP recycled more than 74 million kgs of hardware and printer cartridges in 2006, the firm has announced.
According to HP, this is a 16 per cent increase on the amount of office equipment and printer cartridges being recycled in 2005.
To date, HP has recycled more than 920 million pounds-worth of hardware and printer cartridges from around the world, putting it well on track to surpass its target of one billion pounds by end of 2007.
"Closing in on our one billion billion goal is yet another example of HP's commitment to reducing impact on the environment," said Pat Tiernan, vice president of corporate, social and environmental responsibility at HP.
"Part of environmental responsibility at HP is to provide global recycling programmes that give our customers choice, convenience and control in how to dispose of products responsibly."
HP has also revealed that it collected 2.5 million units of hardware that were refurbished and sold-on or given to charitable causes.
The amount recycled in the 2006 fiscal year weighs the equivalent of 600 jumbo jet airliners and further highlights the impact that HP is attempting to make with its global recycling programmes.
