HP launches revolutionary E-book

Printer supplies Hewlett-Packard (HP) has presented its latest e-book offering at the 2007 HP Mobility Summit in Shanghai.

The IT giant is more commonly associated with printers, office supplies and inkjet cartridges, but it is now turning its hand to leading the revolution of high-tech electronic books.

And its latest e-book concept happens to be just as innovative as its line of high quality printing products, featuring virtual pages that can be flicked through similarly to a paper book.

Not only does the A4-sized device look amazing, but HP revealed that future models are likely to offer Wi-Fi connectivity options.

This means that users could potentially download any text they wanted from a virtual library and read it on their e-book.

The e-book runs on Linux using HP software and users can read photo books via HP's online photo website Snapfish.

The model demonstrated in Shanghai is only a prototype and HP vice president Phillip McKinney said it would be a while before it was available to consumers on a wide scale.

HP recently revealed that its fiscal second quarter sales represented an impressive 13 per cent increase compared to last year
