Greenpeace hails eco-friendly office equipment

Office equipment Manufacturers of office machines and electronics have been making strides regarding the environmental friendliness of their products, according to Greenpeace.

Sony and LG Electronics were shown to be the companies which had made the most progress with their office equipment. The two firms had their penalty points removed due to the introduction of recycling programmes.

According to Greenpeace, Sony's scheme for takeback and recycling of office machines and electronics is "the most advanced" of any of the office supplies firms investigated.

On the other hand, HP was revealed to have lost points in the rankings, following its decrease in support for producers to take back office products. Additionally, the office equipment manufacturer had not yet given concrete timelines for eliminating hazardous chemicals.

"Greenpeace is very pleased with the progress of the electronics industry, a year ago less than half of the companies scored above 5/10, now they all do," commented Iza Kruszewska, Greenpeace International toxics campaigner.

"There is still a long way to go for some, but the momentum is extremely encouraging. What is very exciting is that while the guide focuses on brand leaders, the improvements can be seen industry wide."

Greenpeace was founded in 1971.
