Canon to up output of ink-jet printers
27/07/2007 16:56
Canon is going to ramp up its production of ink-jet printers that print photos in an effort to take control of the market, costing the printer supplies company an estimated total of one billion yen (£4.14 million).
The printer supplies manufacturer plans on more than doubling its output of ink-jet printers to approximately 150,000 with the help of its subsidiary Fukushima Canon.
Last year, the office equipment maker's subsidiary managed to produce 60,000 ink-jet printers offering photos and Canon wishes to compete more successfully with its rival in this field, Seiko Epson.
According to MarketWatch, a Canon spokesperson explained that the printer supplies company is attempting to achieve a global market share of 50 per cent regarding its ink-jet printers, up from the 20 per cent share that it held last year.
For the second quarter of this year, Canon reported that its profits had increased by 17 per cent, on the back of strong performance by its digital cameras, printer-copier-fax machines and laser printers.
Setting its sights for later on in the year, Canon decreased its projected profit margins for the rest of 2007, explaining that the re-calculation was due to a change to the way that the ink-jet printers maker set down accounting procedures.
