Canon reveals profit

Printer cartridges Printer manufacturer Canon may soon be active in the Japanese stock market following an announcement last week that the firm's operating profits have increased 14.9 per cent since the start of the year.

Quick sales of Canon's value-added printers - which come with printer cartridges - have contributed to this figure, reports AFX.

Digital camera sales and a weak yen may also have helped add to the provider of printer cartridges' profits.

However, the company has reduced its annual profit forecasts following the introduction of a tighter age-life method in working out depreciation provision for its products.

Canon was recently acknowledged as one of the printer manufacturers that has a recycling programme to deal with old printer cartridges.

InfoTrends' report found that although Canon, along with other similar firms such as HP and Lexmark, do recycle their products, there is more that can be done by these companies.

At present, Canon's recycling scheme for printer cartridges lets customers mail empty cartridges to the company free of charge.

Customers can log-in to an e-return page where they have the opportunity to create their own free postal label. Information regarding the specific Canon cartridge needs to be added to this label.
