BBB offers advice against office supplies scammers

Offices all over the world are at risk of all sorts of scams, frauds and thefts and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has therefore come up with some advice to help firms tackle such problems.
One common scam sees con artists sell office supplies over the phone or in person to members of staff unfamiliar with purchasing processes, Industry Week reveals.
The salesperson often suggests they're going out of business. Then, if the office supplies are actually delivered, which isn't always the case, they are often poor quality, overpriced or come in a larger order than agreed.

Businesses are urged to advise employees who are not authorised to purchase office supplies to refer dodgy salespeople to purchasing departments.
All offers of office supplies sales should be made in writing and firms are told not to deal with unknown sellers.
The BBB also suggests that companies should keep every purchase documented and institute strict buying and accounting controls.
Finally, the BBB suggests that firms should keep a list of regularly used vendors, to ensure office supplies con artists can't trick people into buying products by saying they've done business with them before.
