2010 games to be supplied by family business
16/01/2007 15:54
A family-run business has won the right to supply the 2010 Winter Olympic Games with office supplies, it has been revealed.
The Vancouver-based company is set to supply volunteers at the games with a host of office supplies, ranging from pens and pencils to notebooks and staplers.
According to the firm, its history of employing disadvantaged people from nearby neighbourhoods and its commitment to social responsibility has given it the advantage over the big corporate office supply companies and has shown that "you don't have to be a big-bucks American guy to win something".
Brad Mills, chief executive of the office supplies retailer, said: "We're a family business in a business that is owned by big corporations.
"We believe we were successful because of our employment commitment to the Downtown Eastside and because of our involvement with charities and giving back to the community. We're big on the environment and recycling programmes."
Ann Duffy, from the Vancouver Olympic Committee, confirmed that event organisers were most interested in sustainability and reducing the impact on the environment than getting the lowest price.
According to Ms Duffy, organisers were excited by a family-run business that "really set the bar high" for sustainability and that they were hoping to use the office supply link-up to promote opportunities in the local community.
At Paperstone, we offer a full range of office supplies to meet the needs of both your office and the environment.
