Wireless office machines 'top Christmas lists'
30/11/2007 15:03
A state-of-the-art piece of office equipment has beaten more traditional consumer products as people's favourite must-have item this season. Wireless printers, one of the ideal office products to cut down on the nightmare of wires everywhere, has been voted dream item in a survey of more than 1,000 computer users. More respondents - some 618 - voted for it in the Lexington International research, against 565 who opted for a flat-screen television and 451 who said they would like a camcorder. While six per cent said they already owned this kind of device, 84 per cent said they would think these office machines would make "a great gift", Lexington said. Paul A. Rooke, executive vice president and consumer print division president, said: "Wireless printers are a gift that can be enjoyed by everyone in the home. "You might want to start with terrific photo prints from your holiday gatherings." Lexington noted that in October PC Magazine had confirmed its Lexmark X3550 all-in-one has lower running costs over three years than products from other office equipment manufacturers like Canon, HP and Kodak in a light-duty scenario. At Paperstone we can supply your firm with a wide selection of office machines.

Office supplies firm chooses ERP system
30/11/2007 15:02
The largest independent office supplies company in the US has adopted Microsoft's Dymanics AX system to manage its business and critical operations information. Microsoft's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is more flexible than other solutions and matches the WB Mason's needs, the software giant said. "Microsoft Dynamics AX provides us with a very versatile solution and having MBS Dev on board to support us will help ensure that our operations are running smoothly," he added. Benefits expected include support for the office supplies company's growth, cost savings, improved reporting and forecasting and ease of use. Boston-based WB Mason was founded in 1898 and has 14 distribution centres in eight states serving more than 140,000 customers. It sells office supplies, office furniture, technology, toner and printer solutions. These include art supplies, desk accessories, mailroom supplies, paper rolls, phones and accessories and filing cabinets. Canon invests in printer cartridges production
29/11/2007 17:04
Canon has unveiled plans for a printer cartridges manufacturing facility in Oita city, Japan. The office supplies provider is stepping up production of its printer and inkjet cartridges in response to rising demand for such office equipment among consumers. Construction on the office products facility will begin next month, with operations likely to commence in September 2009, Canon said. The company chose Oita city as a location for the facility to enable development of office products from a single location. Cannon added: "The location offers close proximity to parts suppliers and the availability of a high-quality workforce from surrounding areas." A technical skills training facility will be developed next to the printer cartridges production plant in Oita city, which is scheduled for completion in April 2009, the firm has also announced. Lectures on the manufacturing of office equipment will be provided at the centre, which will be equipped with tools such as plastic-moulding machines, lathes, milling machines and grinding machines for lens production.

Office equipment manufacturer expands green energy use
29/11/2007 17:02
HP is to expand its impact on tackling climate change by installing green technology at its office machines development sites in the US and Ireland, it has emerged. The office supplies company has agreed a power purchasing agreement with renewable energy company SunPower, which will cut energy costs by around $750,000 (£363,686) over the next 15 years. A solar power installation will be built at the office equipment provider's facility in San Diego as part of the move. Some 5,000 solar panels will be installed across five of its buildings and will convert enough power from the sun's light to run ten per cent of HP's office equipment running costs. The firm has also announced an agreement with Airtricity that will convert about 90 per cent of the office machines developer's power use into renewable energy. "Switching to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power makes both environmental and business sense," commented Pat Tiernan, vice president of social and environmental responsibility at HP. Office equipment manufactured by HP includes desktops and workstations, notebooks, multifunction printers and printer cartridges.

Lexmark office machines 'more cost-effective'
29/11/2007 17:01
Office equipment manufactured by HP has been shown to be the most cost-effective, according to a study by PC Magazine. Last month, members of the magazine's office products assessment team focussed on the life, durability and total cost of printer cartridges on various office equipment manufacturers' products. Office machines company Lexmark revealed that its X3550 product was deemed to be least expensive printer, based on expenditure on inkjet cartridges, for light use over the long-term. Canon, Kodak and HP were among the manufacturers of additional office products tested in PC Magazine's study. Lexmark's X3550 product was found to represent savings of 17 per cent compared to its nearest competitor, it emerged. Paul A Rooke, consumer printer division president of the office equipment company, commented that the findings reflect Lexmark's focus on overall printing value. "What matters is the total cost of printing, which includes the price of the printer plus the cost for all the pages you'll print over its lifetime," PC Magazine concluded. Lexmark this week announced plans to develop a new internet-based photo-editing application in conjunction with Picnik.

New solution for handling office supplies
28/11/2007 17:13
Office supplies provider Smead has unveiled a new product to help manage bulky paperwork, it has emerged. Smead Tuff Pockets is an office equipment tool that enables workers to help store entire projects in one place. Using heavy-weight, thick front and back panels, the facility will help keep important office products safe and secure, the company said. The solution for handling office supplies could help reduce wasted time and stress brought about when workers struggle to keep heavy paperwork, which might have invoked a high expense in printer cartridges, within traditional file folders, Smead indicated. Containing up to 1,500 single-file papers, the office equipment storage device expands as new work is added and can be stored either in a drawer, overhead, or on a shelf, Smead explained. "For dealing with bulky paperwork, there is no better solution than the newly-expanded Tuff product family," claimed Jim Riesterer, vice president of marketing at the firm. "Smead Tuff Pockets are the toughest pockets we've ever made. They're virtually indestructible," he added.

Networking office machines 'can save money'
28/11/2007 17:10
Small businesses could make substantial cost savings through better networking of their office equipment, it is claimed. Incorporating additional entrepreneurs into a small firm's office equipment network could also help build loyalty and increased visibility, according to Lexmark. Linking up office machines can help businesses cut the cost of printer cartridges, whether the printers use laser or inkjet cartridges, Lexmark added. Wireless printers feature among the office equipment provided by Lexmark that can be networked via a router or server. The office equipment supplier's E250dn laser printer includes networking capabilities and offers speeds of up to 30 pages a minute, while its X9350 wireless office all-in-one printer also includes automatic double-sided printing, which many help reduce a business' paper budget. One printer can be shared across multiple workstations through networking, said Marty Canning, vice president of Lexmark. "This helps cut down on costs associated with purchasing and servicing multiple machines, allowing small businesses to streamline processes and increase productivity," he added.

Office machines 'very important' for finance professionals
15/11/2007 17:01
Up-to-date office equipment is an important asset for finance professionals, it has been suggested. Research by office supplies manufacturer Lexmark International revealed that banking and financial service professionals seek to capitalise on the benefits of digital technology in office machines more so compared to other sectors of the business industry. Some 81 per cent of respondents to the survey agreed that printing was an important part of their business, while digital tasks such as scanning to e-mail and scanning to file were rated as "very important" by over half of office equipment users. Finance professionals place a higher emphasis on hard copy documents and multifunction technology (MFP), which can provide a solution by incorporating such office products into one device, said Marty Canning, president of Lexmark International's printing solutions and service division. MFP platforms can save time and output from office supplies, he noted, in addition to possible savings on printer cartridges. "LDSS (Lexmark Document Solutions Suite) can help banks reduce a typical nine-step, five-day loan application process to a simple four-step electronic solution that can be completed in less than one hour," Mr Canning claimed. Recent research by the office machines provider found that the majority of health care professionals rely on the speed of black and white printing where as smaller businesses are more inclined to use colour printer cartridges.
