Workers happy to fix office equipment

Employees feel confident trying to fix broken office equipment, a new study has revealed.
The UseIT Survey, conducted jointly by Samsung and YouGov, polled 2,000 workers and asked them about their relationship to office equipment in the workplace.
And according to the results, the majority feel that they can cope up with any hiccups suffered by office equipment. Of those polled, 89 per cent said they could happily change a printer cartridge and 83 per cent would try and fix a jammed printer.
More impressive is the amount of workers who claim to be able to deal with hi-tech office equipment without calling the IT department.
A whopping 63 per cent claimed to be able to extract lost or corrupt data from broken PCs and laptops and 73 per cent said that they were capable of customising their monitor for optimum viewing.
However, while most seemed competent in dealing with troublesome office equipment, almost as many admitted to misusing it.
Just under 60 per cent admitted to wasting their firms printer cartridges by printing out documents and never collecting them.
Neil Berville, IT divisional director of Samsung Electronics, said: "I'm quite surprised people are admitting how much print material they leave on printersthere are ways to solve issues, such as [devices] that will hold the print job until you go to the machine and input a [pin] number."
The results of the survey have led some business experts to claim that troublesome office equipment is costing the UK's economy millions through lower productivity, as many hours are lost trying to fix printers and other office products.
