Toshiba delivers reusable printer supplies
23/11/2006 13:21
Toshiba has announced a brand new printer that it claims will help cut down on the amount of printer supplies wasted in offices around the country.
The latest in a line of innovative office products designed to make the working environment more enjoyable and environmentally friendly, including Hettich's range of silent office furniture, the Toshiba B-SX8R printer can reprint on a single sheet of paper up to 500 times.
Toshiba claims that the printer could create a niche market in the office product environment, with companies who print a lot of non-permanent documents looking to cut down on their waste.
Using paper made from polyethylene terephthalate, the same material used to create fizzy drinks bottles, the printer is able to save on printer supplies by reusing the paper and cutting down on the amount of printer cartridges needed.
In turn, this could help firms reduce their carbon emissions as it could significantly reduce the amount of waste and recycling they create.
According to Mike Keane, a spokesman for Toshiba, the technology used in this 21st century printer is far from new.
Mr Keane claims that technology used in the B-SX8R first appeared in office products in the 1970s and has long been the basis for fax communications. "None of this is really new technology. It's technology that's already established."
However some experts have questioned the use of recyclable paper, with Jeff Cooper, chair of the International Solid Waste Association's Scientific and Technical Committee claiming that it was replacing an "eminently renewable source" of office supplies with a "predominantly non-renewable" one.
Paperstone offers a wide selection of printer supplies and printer cartridges on its website.
