Scottish office equipment sales tail off
21/12/2006 15:57
A decline in the amount of office equipment being sold has been blamed for the downturn in Scottish exports over recent years.
According to the latest figures from Scotland's Global Connections Survey, financial services and energy-related products have helped export figures increase by five per cent in 2005 to £18.6 billion.
But sharp falls in the exportation of office equipment and electronic products kept the amount £1.1 billion short of the £19.7 billion recorded in 2002.
Top of the export list were beverages and chemicals, recording sales of £3.6 billion and £1.8 billion respectively.
However, office machines did account for £1.7 billion worth of exports in 2005 and played a part in keeping Scottish exports at a reasonable level.
Scotland's Global Connections Survey also revealed the top destinations for the country's office equipment and beverages.
America once again came out on top with around £2.1 billion, equivalent to 11 per cent, of all exports heading across the Atlantic.
It beat a number of European nations, who collectively accounted for £9.6 billion worth of exports heading out of Scotland.
