New software protects hi-tech office equipment
23/11/2006 13:21
Stolen office equipment such as laptops and PCs can cause a nightmare for businesses and their data security.
However, Oakley Networks has revealed a new product that it claims is able to locate and destroy sensitive documents as soon as laptops and PCs are connected to a fixed or wireless internet connection.
Using the software could help businesses deter thieves from stealing their hi-tech office equipment as it will be disabled if used on the internet.
Entitled SureFind, Oakley Networks has said that the software can help prevent firms from having to make "embarrassing press announcements" or public notifications.
The UK-based building society Nationwide recently had to disclose that a piece of office equipment taken home by an employee and stolen could reveal the identity of a number of customers.
On top of that, a recent study has revealed that only one in 50 businesses who have a piece of hi-tech office equipment, such as a laptop or PC, stolen ever recover it.
Oakley Networks has added that with the addition of the ability to see whether data has been read, altered or tampered with gives businesses an added measure of security when it comes to protecting valuable data.
Oakley is one of a number of firms working on solutions to the issue of sensitive data being stolen from laptops and PCs, following a string of high profile cases.
As well as Nationwide, MI5 agents and other government officials have been guilty of losing hi-tech office equipment containing important data.
A full range of office equipment can be found the Paperstone website.
