Envelopes
The first form of communication between companies often
comes in the form of a letter, and therefore the envelope you
use is vital in portraying your company’s image, along
with its stationery. Envelopes come in all manner of sizes,
styles, thicknesses and colours. The most common envelope sizes
are; C4, C5, C6 and DL and these correspond with the most
common stationery sizes which are A4, A5, A6 and compliment
slip size.

DL envelopes hold an A4 sheet folded twice; into 3 parts.
This is the most common size of envelope; with most offices
sending out their branded stationery in this size letter. Whilst
this is the most popular size it does involve folding your stationery
in three whilst some people may prefer not to do this so may well be
better off with the C4 or C5 sizes.

C4 envelopes hold an A4 sheet unfolded. C4 envelopes are
just slightly bigger than an A4 piece of paper or stationery,
enabling them to carry a brochure or catalogue.

Styles of envelopes
There are three main styles of
envelope; pocket, banker or wallet. Wallet and banker envelopes
both open along the longer side, the banker envelope opening
with a large ‘V’ shaped flap and the wallet
envelope with a shorter, squarer flap. There are four main ways
of sealing an envelope: peel and seal envelopes, press seal
envelopes, gummed seal envelopes or twin gummed envelopes. With
