At Paperstone we sell one of the webs largest selections of toner cartridges, Inkjet cartridges and general printer supplies. The biggest distinction between toner cartridges and inkjet cartridges is the technology that enables them to deliver the ink or toner to the paper.

Toner cartridges

Toner cartridges use a very fine toner powder which is stored inside the cartridge and then transferred to the toner drum using laser technology. The laser depicts the letters or images onto the drum; the drum then picks up the toner from the toner cartridge and it is then transferred onto the paper. Hence the toner leaves the toner and is transferred via the laser to the paper.

Inkjet cartridges

Inkjet cartridges are much smaller than toner cartridges and operate a different technology. Rather than a toner powder; an inkjet cartridge uses ink similar to that used in a pen. The inkjet then has lots of tiny nozzles that transfer the ink from the inkjet cartridge onto the paper. Inkjet cartridges allow higher quality images to be produced than toner cartridges for a lower unit cost. However inkjet cartridges are more expensive to run as the cartridges run out more frequently.

The advantages of toner cartridges:

• Toner cartridges are more cost effective in terms of cost per page
• Toner cartridge printers can print more quickly (although they need time to warm up)
• Toner cartridges have a longer print cycle than inkjet cartridges

The advantages of inkjet cartridges:

• They are cheaper to buy (although they run out more frequently)
• One inkjet cartridge can hold more than one colour of ink
• It is possible to print photos with an inkjet cartridge
• Large format printers use inkjet cartridges
