New office equipment 'cuts cost of printer cartridges'
12/12/2007 16:10
Office machines that waste money through the use of excess paper and inkjet cartridges by higher quality printing settings can be tamed, it has been suggested. IBM and Ricoh's InfoPrint Solutions joint venture has revealed a new office supplies product called Intelligent Print Control (IPC) that will help save firms money by automatically selecting the appropriate printer settings for each document, reports iTWire. The product is also designed to assist office equipment users who have to waste time going through a number of windows to ensure that their printer supplies less ink or double-siding printing for a particular document, indicated Bruce McLennann, director of IPC distributor Print Associates (PA). Any model of printer will work with IPC, which functions by assigning a printing profile for each office equipment user, he said. Printing preferences are then stored and the product will recognise words such as draft or final in documents to ensure that the right settings are used, Mr McLennann added. By ensuring the required use of inkjet cartridges and paper, IPC will result in at least a 30 per cent reduction in the direct cost of printing for office equipment users, according to the Print Associates website.

Cost of printer cartridges "critical factor"
06/12/2007 17:16
The cost of inkjet cartridges should be a priority consideration when purchasing a new printer, it has been suggested. Research by QualityLogic has shown that office equipment owners can generate cost savings through the use of more effective printer cartridges. Businesses looking to purchase new office products may be attracted to the company's cost-of-ink-per-page (CoIPP) service that gives consumers a financial insight into the potential costs involved in running a new printer based on the efficiency of its inkjet cartridges. "A CoIPP analysis provides consumers with information that is impartial, accurate and consistent," said QualityLogic official Dave Jollata. "It gives them [office equipment owners] a new way to look at this portion of the overall cost of owning and operating a printer," he added. Growing demand for the printer cartridges cost assessment service is expected from both businesses and general consumers, Mr Jollata noted. A recent study by QualityLogic found that the Kodak Easyshare 5000 printer series offers more efficient printer cartridges compared to 11 competitive printers from France and Germany. The company also provides test tools for additional office products, such as telecommunications, multi-functional printers and facsimiles, QualityLogic explains on its website.
