Bike Week 2017

Dig out your Lycra ladies and gentlemen! It will soon be Bike Week so why not take part in a cycling challenge this year?

Bike Week takes place from June 10-18 and the main aim is to encourage ‘everyday cycling for everyone’, on the way to work, the shops, or to see friends. This year the main emphasis is on the workplace.

Around half a million cyclists are expected to take part in hundreds of events and there’s still time to organise a challenge at your office or place of work. You don’t have to do it all alone – if you register with Bike Week you will be eligible for free public liability insurance, digital assets and website tools to promote your event.

Popular challenges include bike breakfasts (everyone cycles to work and then tucks in to coffee and pastries) or buddy rides, when friends meet up and explore local routes together. Social rides are also popular, drawing in a wider crowd so that people make new friends to cycle with on a regular basis.

Fund-raising is encouraged as it gives everyone some extra motivation to dig out their cycling shorts, although wearing lycra isn’t compulsory!

If you join in, you’ll be maintaining a long tradition- Bike Week was started by the Cyclists’ Touring Club in 1923.
