Woman Marries Warehouse

A Seattle woman gay-married a warehouse last month in a bid to draw attention to the 107-year-ol building which is slated to be demolished and turned into a mixed-use appartment building. Babylonia Aivaz instead wants the space to be used as a community centre.

Aivaz is opposed to gentrification which will hit the poor with increased rent. She fell in love with the building during a 200-strong Occupy Seattle protest inside it in December.

“If corporations can have rights as people, so can buildings,” she said. “I’m doing this to show the building how much I love it, how much I love community space and how much I love this neighborhood. And I want to stop it from gentrification”
