Dermatographic urticaria, or dermographism, is a skin disorder which effects around one in twenty people. In dermographism (literally, “skin writing”, the skin becomes raised and inflamed when scratched, rubbed, or otherwise agitated. As such, people with the condition can “write” on their skin by frim stroking.
Dermographism can be treated with antihistamines and is neither life-threatening nor contagious.
