A Trip to the Sellotape Factory

Did you know that ordinary sticky tape emits x-rays when you peel it off the roll?

The effect is a manifestation of triboluminescence – the phenomenon of light being emitted when some compounds, including sugar, are crushed. It just so happens that the disruption of the sticky tape adhesive molecular bonds results in an emission of x-rays.

Well fancy that?
