Google Maps ‘Map-Jacked’

By Paperstone on February 12, 2010 in Office Supplies

By now, you’re probably well aware of Google Street View, a feature of Google Maps that provides panoramic photographic views of many of the world’s streets. It made a minor media noise, particularly in relation to unwitting participants who had had their photo taken.

Here is some recent Norwegian ‘map-jacking’, i.e. individuals subverting Google’s mass mapping practice. A Street View of Bergen, Norway, released the other night, revealed a bit of cheeky sabotage by two locals. Dressed in full scuba gear, the mad Norsemen appear to be chasing the car from where the photographs for Google are being taken. One of the individuals is armed with a trident. A click down the street reveals the apparently hot pursuit.
