Office fire highlights that smoking still a fire risk

Office workers are required by law to smoke outdoors but this doesn’t mean that smoking no longer poses a fire risk. A recent fire in Douglas on the Isle of Man highlighted the potential risk of fire caused by cigarettes not properly stubbed out. The fire was caused by a smouldering cigarette end that ignited waste material outside an office. While no one was hurt, the fire service had to be called out and there was damage to the ground floor.
