HP in Leopard office machines update row
08/04/2008 10:09
People who wish to scan documents using one of HP's range of office products and Apple's Leopard technology have been told they must buy new office equipment to complete the job, according to a report.
While HP has updated its drivers on the Officejet 6110 in order for users to print when connected to an OS X Leopard computer, the office products manufacturer has said it will not update drivers for the scanning function.
Gizmodo reports that the problem was highlighted when one of its workers had issues with the office products and contacted HP.
The report stated: "There are some open source drivers and scanning suites available so he can get scanning to work under Leopard.
"It may require a bit of trial and error, since open source drivers or suites aren't exactly as install-and-forget as the official ones, but it beats having to buy a new printer."
Earlier this month, HP joined a number of major office equipment manufacturers at the Photofair 2008 exhibition in Mumbai, with HP among the largest exhibitors at the show.
HP's new range of office machines on show comprises of the new Photo Centre, Photosmart PM 2000e Microlab printer and Photosmart ML 1000 Minilab printer.
