HP celebrates 20th anniversary of landmark office machines
03/03/2008 01:10
One of the world's largest office machines manufacturers is celebrating the anniversary of one of its most iconic office products.
Twenty years ago, HP launched its first Deskjet range of office machines which set the market alight, using a combination of new technologies alongside HPprinter cartridges.
A range of inkjet-based office products followed as the market used the same technologies and sales of inkjet cartridges and office machines soared around the world.
However, according to a report, HP is now looking to recapture that movement by creating new technologies and concentrating on in-store printing.
Photo printing in shops and supermarkets is an area which HP do not yet cover well as, despite having a 46 per cent of the office machines market share, it only has a 1.6 per cent share of the in-store printing market.
Federico De Silva, an analyst with Gartner, told the Associated Press: "HP realises they have such a high market share and they have new entrances in the market. They are taking their own inkjet technology and expanding it into new markets."
Earlier this month, HP unveiled the Photosmart Pro B8850 range of office machines which are aimed at small businesses and companies which do not have office space in abundance.
