Eco-friendly workers reveal office equipment gripes

Office equipment Many workers across the world are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental aspects of using office machines and office supplies, a new study has revealed.

According to a survey by office machines manufacturer Xerox, 40 per cent of those polled said that their top pet peeve about colleagues was mindless printing resulting in abandoned pages at the side of office products.

The research found that companies should do more to encourage recycling of office supplies, as a lack of recycling bins annoyed 33 per cent of workers, while the excessive use of paper products, such as plates and cups, frustrated 27 per cent.

Patricia Calkins, vice president of environment, health and safety at Xerox, said: "As we talk with our customers, we often find that environmental consciousness is left in the recycling bin that sits in employees' garages.

"While they're eco-friendly at home, the office is still breeding ground for bad habits.

"Yet, as this survey found, it takes a few small steps to make a big difference."

Last month, Xerox launched its Sustainability Calculator, designed to help businesses find out what parts of their company are causing the most damage to the environment, while also helping reduce costs.
