Xerox partnership to reduce printer cartridges waste

Office equipment manufacturer Xerox has announced that it is partnering with GreenPrint Technologies to help cut down on the number of printer cartridges used by office machines.

The Xerox Phaser 8560 and Phaser 8860 solid ink printers will be bundled with software from the eco-friendly firm with the aim of cutting down on printing waste associated with printer cartridges.

Xerox claims that this opportunity will help customers save money and reduce their carbon footprint.

"We see bundling our software with Xerox solid ink printers as an ideal fit in a lot of ways," GreenPrint chief executive officer Hayden Hamilton commented.

"The solid ink printers have been designed to eliminate the waste associated with toner cartridges, bringing annual waste related to packaging and cartridges down from 157 lbs to five lbs per printer."

He added that those who use the Xerox office machines can cut down on printed pages and related coasts "by an additional 15-20 per cent across the board".

The software works by analysing pages sent to the printer which contain just a banner ad, a URL, a logo or legal jargon. It then removes these wasteful pages from the print queue.

In addition, the Xerox printers use solid sticks of non-toxic ink rather than toner or inkjet cartridges.

The office supplies firm recently introduced a new colour printer for the small business market.
