Samsung to showcase new printer

Samsung, a manufacturer of office equipment, is set to showcase what it claims is the world’s slimmest monochrome laser printer.

The ML-1630 will be shown at Gitex 2007, along with another one of the company’s office machines, the SCX-4500.

Both printers are much slimmer than the average, with the SCX-4500 clocking in at two-thirds the size of current printers and the ML-1630 measuring only 11 centimetres thick.

"The ML-1630 and the SCX-4500 mark the world-first attempt in the printer industry to develop printers based not only on functions and performance, but also on elegance and design," the office supplies company states.

Both office machines also have a streamlined design, having had any extraneous buttons removed for the users’ convenience.

An inputting/outputting Paper and cassette help with jam resolution, which the firm believes adds to the device’s efficiency.

"Samsung now takes the printer to an entirely new level of artistic refinement, above the technology and functional competition," remarked Seunggu Kang, general manager of the printer division at Samsung Gulf Electronics.

"Product competitiveness no longer only draws from product functionality, but product sensibility and uniqueness," he added.

Mr Kang explained that the firm is targeting its office equipment at individual consumers who want stylish, luxurious products.

Samsung recently announced that it was investing millions of dollars to upgrade its line of printer chips.
