Office furniture manufacturer awarded green standard

UK office furniture manufacturer VERCO has been given an international environmental standard, the firm has announced.

The BS EN ISO 14001:2004 has been awarded to the High Wycombe-based office furniture maker to help it continuously improve its environmental performance.

Commenting on the award, VERCO sales and marketing director Chris Riley said the office products firm was "committed" to cutting its carbon footprint.

"We implemented systems to identify all relevant environmental legislation to ensure that we meet requirements and have identified both short- and long-term objectives," he remarked.

"Consideration is given during the design stage of VERCO furniture manufacture to use materials that will reduce the impact of our products throughout their life cycle."

He added that waste production is also reduced "wherever possible" and is also considered for re-use or recycling as part of its greener office supplies strategy.

Although some of the office furniture manufactured by the firm contains of volatile organic compounds, he said that it is working to decrease this practice.

VERCO aims to create ergonomic office furniture, the company’s website states.
