HP to introduce mobile printing

By Paperstone on August 20, 2007 in HP

HP – manufacturer of printer cartridges, office machines and related products – has said that it has a new technology which allows users to print documents using their mobile phones.

To use the Cloudprint service, consumers will have to save a PDF of the document onto HP‘s servers, receive a unique code by text message, use the code to access the saved PDF, then print it from one of the office machines which is included in the service, the New York Times reports

Google Maps provides a directory of those printers which are able to provide the service.

Patrick Scaglia, HP‘s director for internet and computing platforms technologies, told the publication that "the world is going to flip" over the advance.

He added that the firm wants to help create business which would indirectly help the sales of HPprinter cartridges and other printer supplies.

Last week, the manufacturer of office products announced its third-quarter profits, which showed a rise in both revenue and net income.

A portion of the rise was due to the imaging and printing unit, which boosted revenue by eight per cent.
