Green showroom given platinum praise

A US-based firm has been awarded top honours for its efforts to create the perfect green office environment.

Carpet manufacturer Interface joined forces with design firm TVS Interiors in a bid to create a showroom that was also a haven for environmentalists.

And its efforts to help create a sustainable working environment have been deemed so good that the US Green Building Council has awarded the showroom Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum status – one of the highest accolades available.

In an effort to ensure that Interface and TVS Interiors kept the project as green as possible, they brought in LEED specialist Carlie Bullock-Jones to oversea the project.

Speaking to Business Week, Ms Bullock-Jones said: "You can build the most energy-efficient building, but if the client plugs in ten coffeemakers and a hundred computers, then it’s all for naught sometimes."

Harnessing natural light, Ms Bullock-Jones claims that Interface will be able to reduce its carbon footprint by keeping artificial light use to a minimum.

She has also claimed that the location of the showroom was key to achieving platinum LEED status, thanks to good local transport in Atlanta and space in the vicinity of the building to create parking spaces in order to promote car pooling.

At Paperstone, we offer a host of environmental friendly products, including recycled office supplies, to help you reduce your firm’s impact on the environment.
