Eco-friendly office environment tips revealed

By Paperstone on June 6, 2007 in Office Supplies

Office supplies can often be wasted by firms, but with recycling gaining more and more significance in the UK today, Ecotopia has come up with some hints to help make offices more eco-friendly.

The ethically-minded firm has urged businesses to re-think their buying practices, revealing that in Britain 20 million tonnes of refuse each year is produced, 90 per cent of which ends up in landfills.

In contrast, Switzerland recycles almost 80 per cent of its waste and Ecotopia has called on more firms to think about using more recycled Paper and envelopes.

"Every 100 reams of recycled office Paper printed double-sided saves two trees, more than a tonne of greenhouse gas and almost one cubic metre of landfill space in comparison with 100 reams of Paper not recycled or printed double," Ecotopia revealed.

The company, which offers ethical solutions on products ranging from office supplies to clothing, also suggested buying energy efficient office equipment, such as energy saving light bulbs.

Another useful hint the company offered to help improve the environment by using office equipment more efficiently was turning off computers when not in use and removing screen savers.

Recycling office supplies, such as toner and printer cartridges were noted as "sure fire ways to create a greener office environment".
