Bulk buying to cut council costs

By Paperstone on February 1, 2007 in Office Supplies

Warrington Borough Council has announced plans to buy its office supplies in bulk in a bid to cut nearly £500,000 from its expenses.

The council has recently undergone a financial review after the GMB union claimed it was a "big spender" amongst local authorities.

Council officials have now completed a consultation exercise which was borne from concerns that it was spending too much in the wrong areas and is now set to implement the cost-cutting recommendations put forward by businesses and local residents.

It is also set to redistribute funds from its budget to areas where local people think they would be better spent.

Speaking to the Warrington Guardian, councillor Fiona Bruce said: "Delivering value for money to our council tax payers is of utmost important.

"The more efficient we can be about how we use our resources, the more there will be to spend on services which really matter to the public."

As well as reducing its outlay on office supplies and office furniture, Warrington Borough Council is set to cut the amount it spends on temporary and agency staff.

This should help it reduce the £5.5 million it reportedly spent on non-permanent staff in 2006.

At Paperstone, we offer a full range of office supplies at prices that will help your company keep costs down.
