Self-service paper shredder gets US patent

Paper shredders Paper shredders across the world may fear for their futures, after the US Patent and Trademark Office recently granted a patent for The Self-Service Shredder.

Built and marketed by Colorado Springs-based firm Real Time Shredding, the machine was granted its patented status for its role as a "public access information destruction system performing pay-per-use shredding".

Johnny R. Podrovitz, vice president of business services of RealTime Shredding, revealed that the decision marks several years of work and technical innovation.

The machine is a lot more advanced than the regular paper shredders you might find in an office, featuring anti-jam software and a wireless internet connection to monitor use.

It is the first kiosk of its type acting as a paper shredder, but can also cut cardboard, credit cards, paper clips, staples, and even CDs, DVDs and floppy disks.

Up to 200 sheets can be destroyed per minute by the industrial strength self-service paper shredders.

With concerns about ID fraud rife across the world right now, banks, small businesses, offices and shopping malls have been fitted with the kiosk.

Amanda Verrie, president of RealTime Shredding, said: "Word-of-mouth is fuelling the kiosks' use.

"Once people learn about The Self-Service Shredder's availability and ease of use, they want to try it out."

At Paperstone we can supply your firm with a wide selection of paper shredders.
