Paper shredders 'indispensable' to protect security
24/08/2007 16:22
Paper shredders are a useful way for people to protect their data from fraudsters, it has been suggested.
The office machines are handy for personal use as well - and work better for disposing of credit card offers than simply tearing up papers, according to Matt Hines, writing for InfoWorld.
He relates a story about a young man who tore up one of the credit card offers he received through the post, then taped it back together again and sent off for a card.
The company responded by sending him a new card, an example cited by Mr Hines of the risks of not using paper shredders to ensure that information is unable to be pieced back together again.
Meanwhile, US-based company Fellowes recently warned students returning to university that they are one of the main groups targeted for fraud.
Paper shredders "should top the list" of back-to-school basics, along with the usual inventory of office supplies, it suggested.
"Shredding all sensitive documents is a simple way for students to significantly reduce their risk of becoming a victim of identity theft," remarked Nancy Heaton, senior global marketing manager for Fellowes.
At Paperstone we can supply your firm with a wide selection of office machines.
