Offices thrive in 'box that changed the world'

Office equipment The National Portable Storage Association (NPSA) is set to celebrate 50 years of the mobile office.

Malcolm McLean is the man credited with inventing container shipping but his most recognisable invention has also helped to revolutionise the office environment.

While the use of containers helped to cut the cost of shipping and allow bulky items to be shipped around the world after being manufactured, they also enabled firms to store office equipment safely and conveniently on-site.

These meant that the containers could also double up as operational hubs and allow offices to function from them.

John Finnessy, executive director of NPSA, said: "The NPSA continues to celebrate McLean's contributions to our industry this year - and so do users of portable storage everywhere."

Before the use of portable storage, office equipment and supplies that needed to go into storage would more often than not have to be stored off-site at inconvenient locations.

This, according to NPSA, caused massive disruptions to companies looking to continue their operations while moving offices or undergoing a refurbishment.

NSPA has added that it is looking forward to another fifty years of successful portable storage thanks to the "box that changed the world".

At Paperstone, we offer a range of office equipment that can help change your world - well at work anyway.
