Office supplies con artist kid skips jail… for now

Office supplies The young south London boy who was caught selling fake office supplies has been told that he faces a jail sentence in court recently.

However, the 16-year-old con artist was spared jail at Balham Youth Court, after a judge adjourned sentencing for a psychological assessment.

After beginning his phoney office supplies operations at just 13, the boy racked up 16 fraud charges worth £50,000, while asking for 105 other offences worth £135,000 to be taken into consideration.

A judge said in court: "At the moment all sentencing options remain open to me, whether custodial, a community punishment or detention under the Mental Health Act.

"I need more information before sentencing [the defendant].

"In addition to a psychological assessment I make a formal request that if it is thought appropriate by those carrying out the assessment, a psychiatric assessment be carried out as well, so that I have all the information I need."

The boy set up dodgy businesses selling office supplies, cleaning products and office stationery over the internet.

He is reported to have conned unsuspecting customers out of hundreds of thousands of pounds, selling them stock he never had.
