Maxitech and HP in London IT recycling bid

Office equipment Maxitech.biz has teamed up with print giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) in a bid to raise money for local community initiatives and supply children's charity NCH with revamped IT technology.

The scheme is part of the international Earth Day 2007 movement and London residents can drop off unwanted computers, monitors, printers, mobile phones, digital cameras and scanners at Maxitech.biz premises so they can be refurbished.

Some of the equipment will go to the NCH and some will be sold to hard-up UK businesses at a low cost.

The money raised in sales will fund Maxitech.biz's Edge Employer IT hardware training programme, which helps disadvantaged people gain IT qualifications.

Peter Paduh, managing director at Maxitech.biz, said the reuse of IT equipment had significant environmental benefits and the scheme would create opportunities for disadvantaged communities.

Kam Matharu, NCH's head of children and technology, said: "Every child deserves the chance to take advantage of new technology regardless of their background or situation.

"The launch of this innovative scheme will improve the lives of many of the young people and their families that we work with by making IT more accessible."

Maxitech.biz is a not-for-profit organisation that deals with companies' recycling needs in the UK.
