INCITS backs ink yield standard
26/02/2007 17:28
An international printing group has given its backing to the adoption of standards covering printer cartridge yields.
The International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) has revealed that it is backing the ISO/IEC 24711:2006 standard for ink and the ISO/IEC 24711:2006 standard for colour toners in order to help consumers make informed purchase choices.
INCITS members include a number of leading printer supplies manufacturers, including Canon, Dell, Epson, HP, IBM, Kodak, Lexmark, Oki Data, Pitney Bowes, QualityLogic, Ricoh, SpencerLab and Xerox.
Paul Jeran, INCITS chair, said: "We believe the robust criteria and consistency of the standards, combined with ISO's unbiased and global approach results in significant benefits for customers and the printing industry alike."
A monochrome printer cartridge standard has already been adopted by the industry, but consumers have been left confused by the difference in efficiency of rival colour printer cartridges.
The new standards should help clear up the market and ensure that there is no more confusion for consumers purchasing printer cartridges.
