Herman Miller unveils C2 desktop device
11/06/2007 16:12
Office furniture specialist Herman Miller has revealed it is launching a new desktop heating and cooling machine, which it hopes will become a common sight in offices across the world.
The $300 (£150) device is entitled the C2 and the company plans to unveil it at the NeoCon office furniture industry trade show in Chicago this weekend.
It resembles a small humidifier and company spokesman Wayne Baxter revealed that in tests starting with an air temperature of 72 degrees, the device raised the temperature within six inches by 40 degrees and cooled it by eight.
The office furniture giant expects the C2 to be profitable in its debut year – with the firm anticipating sales of around 10,000.
Sabrina Carollo of Ariel Capital, which owns Herman Miller shares, told Reuters: "They're trying to focus on the entire working environment, whether it's at an individual desk or a group outside the office. Any complementary product makes sense."
Michigan-based Herman Miller is a US manufacturer of office furniture and office equipment.
The company was founded in 1923 and many of its office furniture and other office supplies are designed to be ecologically sound.
