24/05/2007 16:54
Printer supplies giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) has been handed a seven-year contract worth around $5.6 billion (£2.3 million) to provide technology for the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa).
HP is more commonly associated with printer supplies, inkjet cartridges and office supplies, but it is now set to provide US federal government agencies with desktops, workstations, servers and printers.
Since 1992, the printer supplies specialist has provided federal government agencies with over $620 million (£310 million) worth of products and services.
Jack Novia, managing director and senior vice president of HP Americas technology solutions group, said: "As the federal government looks to maximize investments, reduce costs and increase efficiencies, it needs a technology partner that delivers products and complete solutions that operate seamlessly in complex IT environments.
"With this Nasa SEWP IV contract, HP is pleased to extend our partnership with federal government agencies and help them accomplish their mission goals."
HP has become a global market leader in inkjet cartridges and other printer supplies since it was founded back in 1939.
The company is based in California and was co-founded by Bill Hewlett and David Packard.
