British paper 'good for the environment'

Office supplies British paper suppliers are using responsibly sourced materials, according to an industry body.

The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) has stated that all of its members endeavour to ensure that their pulp and wood stocks come from responsibly managed forests and that the trees being used to supply the paper industry are regularly replaced.

Its proclamation that the UK's paper industry is careful to use responsibly sourced wood comes following the World Wildlife Fund's report into the illegal timber trade.

Illegal Logging: Cut It Out reported that some 3.2 million cubic metres of illegally felled wood is shipping into the UK every year.

However, in a statement, the CPI said: "Certification schemes ensure that any pulp used by CPI member companies has been sourced from forests which are responsibly managed in terms of their environmental and social impact and their continued sustainability."

While the UK has one of the highest recovery rates for paper in Europe, the additional supplies needed to meet demand - amounting to 1.6 million tonnes a year - are sourced using the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification and the Forest Stewardship Council schemes, according to the CPI.

At Paperstone, we can supply you with all the paper you'll ever need.
